Rule 1: Talk
I remember the first time I talked about trauma to anyone - it was my parents, and the response I received wasn’t what I needed. I didn’t know what I needed, and they certainly did their best, but I knew what I got was not what I needed - so I stopped talking about it. What I discovered many years later while working with other people and being in this world where trauma was all around me is the realization that the only way through it was by doing the work.
That’s why the first rule of the Trauma Hiders Club is to talk about the Trauma Hiders Club.
In this episode, I explain the first rule of the Trauma Hiders Club and how talking about your experiences unlocks new opportunities for healing. I discuss my mission to continue talking about trauma and why I believe it’s all around us. I discuss why I believe the global pandemic is a traumatic experience for many people. I also share how telling your trauma story can help you become more open and accepting of who you are as a human being.
“The more we talk about it - the more that we see it, feel it, open up to it in ourselves and to other people - the more we can accept who we are as humans.”
